Sold the Bike.

5Like Motorhead tells us: “You know the chase is better than the catch.” And maybe that’s what it came down to for me, because as I was wrapping up all this work on the bike and taking it out for shakedown runs, I found myself thinking that I wanted to sell it. read more »

Fiesta Movement: Mission Four – Can It!

Posted in Fiesta on September 13th, 2009 by Marc – Be the first to comment

This month was Social Activism Month so Mission Control and our mission was to hold a can drive to benefit a local charity. On top of that, Ford kicked in a check for $500. Jen and I put the call out to all of our friends and filled up the fiesta with food and hauled it on down to Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit. Thanks to every one that donated food!!!

Fiesta Movement – Mission Three: Bon Appetite

This month was Style Month, and Mission Control sent us $400 in AmEx gift cards and asked us to eat our way through the day from breakfast to dinner at 5 of the best-designed restaurants around the D. The objective was to find out if the people that work there are inspired by the environment they work in. So, we hit Toast, The Emory, The Elwood, Ronin, and The Whitney (which is haunted!). Here’s what we found out.

This Wednesday, in collaboration with Joshua Adams/Kitchen Sink, I’ll be having an opening at Goodnight Gracie in Royal Oak. The event starts at 8:30 and Joshua Adams spins old school funk/soul classic rock and hiphop. Art will be on display for one week. The vibe is relaxed. I’ll be there as well just chillin’ and swillin’ so come hang out. There will be a mix of originals and prints there for sale so come and pick up something new. See you there!

Back on Two Wheels

nischanXS650_r3-4I have been making some headway on the XS 650 lately and I’m happy to say that I rode it today and it’s a blast. The list of mods includes fabricating a rear fender and mounts, relocating the battery, regulator, rectifier and solenoid, a headlight swap and lowering, lowered forks, lowered rear, solo seat, chopper wiring, painting the tank and fender, high flow exhaust, single points conversion, high output coil, high flow air filters and a general shaving of all extraneous parts. My friend says it looks like a bike Steve McQueen would ride. That is probably the highest compliment I could have been paid for all this hard work.

Fiesta Movement – Mission 2 Video

Posted in Fiesta on June 23rd, 2009 by Marc – 2 Comments

Jen and I were one of one hundred “Fiesta Agents” given a 2010 Ford Fiesta. Each month for 6 months Jen and I are sent on a mission. Each month has a theme. This month’s theme is Technology, and the mission we were assigned was geocaching. We got a box in the mail that contained a GPS unit, and instructions to log in to www.geocaching.com.  Our assignment was to find a cache and leave an entry in the log that included a link to our fiestamovement page. We had never heard of geocaching, but we packed up in the Fiesta and headed out to give it our best shot. Here’s how it all turned out.

Making it up as I go along

IMG_1424Life, like football, is a game of inches. So it goes with my project bike. Progress creeps along as I try to get an hour in here or there once or twice a week after the baby has gone to bed. This weekend I made a first down conversion.

My Full Custom – Frenched Headlights

Posted in Cars on June 11th, 2009 by Marc – Be the first to comment

49chevkustomI’m trying to keep a late 40s – early 50s feel to this car. I studied some early custom cars built by George Barris and Harry  Westergard and decided that frenching the stock headlight rings would give me the “bullet look” I wanted.  Naturally, it didn’t work out that way. read more »

Making Great Strides Toward Progress

cherrypickerThings were moving quickly now, and I was happier than a roach at Chi-Chi’s. Pistol Pete had called me up to do a month’s worth of fill-in gigs while he warmed up a new guitar player. This was perfect timing because about this time I was trying to figure out how to pay for a tranny. One sleepless month later, I had a rebuilt Turbo 350 sitting in the garage ready to go! The engine was done more or less, so I went over to Jeffro’s to pick it up. I spent most of the rest of my money on a wiring harness and a brake pedal setup. Now I was faced with the problem of how to get the motor and trans in to the car. I knew the perfect tool to use… a phone! I called up my buddies Matt and Brian and picked up a sixer. Now, Brian doesn’t drink, and Matt showed up late, so this was going to make for really cheap labor. read more »
