This month was Social Activism Month so Mission Control and our mission was to hold a can drive to benefit a local charity. On top of that, Ford kicked in a check for $500. Jen and I put the call out to all of our friends and filled up the fiesta with food and hauled it on down to Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit. Thanks to every one that donated food!!!
This month was Style Month, and Mission Control sent us $400 in AmEx gift cards and asked us to eat our way through the day from breakfast to dinner at 5 of the best-designed restaurants around the D. The objective was to find out if the people that work there are inspired by the environment they work in. So, we hit Toast, The Emory, The Elwood, Ronin, and The Whitney (which is haunted!). Here’s what we found out.
Jen and I were one of one hundred “Fiesta Agents” given a 2010 Ford Fiesta. Each month for 6 months Jen and I are sent on a mission. Each month has a theme. This month’s theme is Technology, and the mission we were assigned was geocaching. We got a box in the mail that contained a GPS unit, and instructions to log in to www.geocaching.com. Our assignment was to find a cache and leave an entry in the log that included a link to our fiestamovement page. We had never heard of geocaching, but we packed up in the Fiesta and headed out to give it our best shot. Here’s how it all turned out.
Here’s a little tour of “The D” Jen and Marc style. I put together a list of links about the places we visited in our Fiesta Movement video for Mission One: Show Us Around. There are a couple more relevant Detroit links in there as well.
Last Friday I went out to Chicago to pick up the new Fiesta. What a blast! Here’s a video I put together of the whole trip. The car is a lot of fun to drive, has a great stereo with a hookup for an iPod or a USB drive, gets 40mpg (not even a hybrid), and miraculously has room inside for a Sasquatch like me. Another cool feature is you can control things with your voice. The car has a British accent, and I swear that if you talk to it in a British accent, it understands you better.
We’re waiting to see what our first mission will be. In the mean time we’re letting our friends take it for a spin to see how they like it. Stay tuned for news and reviews. Check out the vid and leave us a comment.
Ford has chosen their Fiesta Agents, and we’re one of them!!! I guess we would be three of them come to think of it. We will be taking possession of a 2011 Ford Fiesta from late April until November. We will go on secret missions and file reports that (we hope) you will watch. Check out our profile at http://www.fiestamovement.com/agents/view/69. I thought it was cool that we’re Agent 69.
NOTE: We’re no longer Agent 69, we became Agent 65 somehow.
Anyway, I’ll/we’ll keep you posted on what’s going on. Thanks a ton to all yous guys that commented on our vid and helped us get the car!!! You can also follow me on twitter at twitter.com/lushville for periodic updates and frequent rambling. See ya!
P.S. It’s not an April Fool’s joke. Or if it is, I fell for it.
Ford is giving out 100 2011 Fiestas before you can buy ‘em. Jen and I are going to try and win one. The way it works is you make a video describing why Ford should let you have a 2011 Fiesta, and if they select it then you as one of the “Fiesta Agents” you go on secret missions and blog about them. Go check out our YouTube video and leave a comment! And maybe we’ll win!
